In 2020, Bill will be starting his 20th year in Professional Baseball and third year with the Detroit Tigers Organization as a Minor League Hitting Instructor since 2018.
In 2017 he was a Major League Hitting Coach in Taiwan with the Chinese Professional Baseball League. In 2015 Springman served as ‘Senior Hitting Advisor’ for the World Champion Kansas City Royals, after finishing 14 seasons overall with the Minnesota Twins… 9 as Minor League ‘Hitting Coordinator’, as well as taking on the additional duties for five seasons as Minor League Mental ‘Mental Skills’ Coach.
At that time Springman mentored current ML players, Denard Span, Ben Revere, Brian Dozier, Trevor Plouffe, Aaron Hicks, Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton, among many others… He also served as Twins Hitting Coach at Class AAA Salt Lake City from 1997-2000...During his time there he coached a range of top players early in their career such as Torii Hunter, David “Big Papi” Ortiz, A.J. Pierzynski, Doug Mientkiewicz, Mike Cuddyer, Casey Blake, Jacque Jones, among others… Served again as Twins AAA Hitting Coach at Class AAA Rochester in 2005.
Selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1st Round of the 1977 Secondary Phase Free Agent Draft out of Oral Roberts University, Played Shortstop on the Gold Medal Winning ‘Team USA’ during the 1977 ‘World Cup Games’ in Nicaragua… Named ‘Sporting News’ First Team College All-American Shortstop in 1978… Coach of the 1992 NCAA Division I ‘National Champions’ at Pepperdine University… Coached the Harwich Mariners of the prestigious Cape Cod League to the Championship in 1987… Coach of the 1985 NBC ‘National Champions’ Liberal Bee Jays… Coached Union High School to the 6A State Championship in 2005… A 1985 graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.... Also, a 1994 graduate of Azusa Pacific University with a masters degree in Educational Psychology.
